URBAN GREEN

Kalpavriksh has worked on protection of ecology of places such as Delhi Ridge Forest, large parks, river fronts, and public gardens near urban regions. From time to time, Kalpavriksh monitors activities that are inimical to urban green areas, such as construction of flyovers, road widening, metro, footpath designs etc. We also participate in dialogues on urban themes.

Our past activities have included environment education in schools and colleges on the theme of urban greenery, surveys for the government to find out the survival rate of plantations under various schemes of compensatory and other plantations, and conducting a tree census. We have filed cases in Delhi High Court on `concretization around tree trunks' and worked with the Delhi Government to streamline the tree helpline, to activate the tree authority and to suggest measures that can make the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act more meaningful.
