Kalpavriksh’s first book for children was published in 2008. The Ghost of the Mountains, a story about conserving the Snow Leopard, is based on a real incident and was developed for the kids of Ladakh. Similarly, most of our early children’s publications were created as part of locale specific education programs. The books Khari Journeys through Kachchh and Shero to the Rescue are about the wildlife and ecosystems of the remote and diverse region of Kachchh. They were first published in Gujarati to support the educational interventions being run in Kachchh by local NGOs. Circle of Life, about the life cycle of a bee, was developed for the children of honey harvesters in Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, where Kalpavriksh has been engaged in conservation and livelihood activities since a couple of decades.
With these beginnings, we then forayed into publishing other books on the themes of nature, wildlife, conservation, communities and more…
KALPAVRIKSH BOOKS The books are about the various dimensions of conservation, written in a straightforward and simple language and cover subjects from the black necked crane to the honeybee.
PO TRICKS HIS FOE The author’s narration in simple and the uncluttered language will allow the child to learn not only about the lifestyle of a pangolin but also about the forest.
PEOPLE & WILDLIFE The eight authors of ten stories have done a beautiful job of keeping the narrative simple without compromising on the complexity of societal constructs, developmental debates, historical and mythological stories of our regions and people.
THE MIRACLE ON SUNDERBAAG STREET Nandita da Cunha effortlessly weaves many different and important themes into this joyful and timely story that throws up new discoveries in every successive read.
THE MIRACLE ON SUNDERBAAG STREET The reader is taken on an amazing journey of discovering recycling as well as looking after the environment, all of it woven together with an incredibly tender, heart touching story.
KALPAVRIKSH BOOKS The language in the books is rich, scientific and factual. The illustrations are varied but all outstanding, they closely support the text and aid the child's understanding.
Kalpavriksh has tied up with several regional language publishers to translate and publish our books.
