LEGAL AND ADVOCACY SUPPORT

Many a times, local communities, despite their collective action in conserving natural areas, face challenges that threaten to destroy their conservation efforts. These could be due to various reasons such as – unsupportive laws, external threats that are beyond the control of local communities, change in land use plans by the government, etc. Recognising the need to support them during these times, Kalpavriksh provides legal and advocacy help by influencing lawmakers and  decision-makers to create, direct or prevent policy changes. Advocacy efforts are also directed in helping local communities to address systemic issues that affect their livelihoods and their environment. (hyperlink to documents).

The research and documentation efforts carried out by Kalpavriksh, on CCAs, is not only directed towards this end, but also in exploring Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs).

Policy Briefs related to CCAs can be found here.
