Kalpavriksh conducts training programmes for educational institutions, NGOs, and other organisations. The programmes are designed based on the needs of the group, and have focussed on issues of biodiversity conservation, environment and development. The training includes discussion based workshops, film screenings, study tours, day-long filed visits etc.

International Honors Program – Rethinking Globalisation (IHP-RG)

Kalpavriksh has hosted students from America as part of their study tour, the International Honors Program – Rethinking Globalisation (IHP-RG), conducted by the Boston University. This course is for selected students to travel across several countries to study the impact of globalization and its alternatives.

Kalpavriksh has conceptualized and executed their program in Sirsi (Karnataka) and Pune (Maharashtra), which consisted of workshops on relevant topics by various speakers, field trips and organizing homestays with families for the students to experience the cultural ethos of the place. The topics covered include biodiversity, community-based conservation, sustainable agriculture, urban environmental issues, education and creative learning, and development projects like big dams.

Partnership in Community Development (PCD)

Kalpavriksh has conceptualized and executed a training workshop for staff members of the PCD – Partnership in Community Development, an NGO based in Mainland China. PCD works with disadvantaged and marginalised communities in Mainland China. Over the past years, their programme has adopted a strategic approach that is people-centered, environmentally conscious and respectful of local cultures.

Kalpavriksh  provided an exposure to concrete programme experiences on environmental conservation and local economy, its concepts and applications. There were a series of discussions and field trips around rural areas of Pune (Maharashtra) to assess the changes being implemented by the communities and their impacts.

School interventions

Kalpavriksh carried out workshops with the students of Symbiosis International School for 2 years, as part of the school’s environment awareness programme. During the first year there were classroom sessions with presentations and field trips focusing on biodiversity found in and around the city.

In the second year, 6 sessions were conducted as part of their Community Service Initiative. The topic chosen was “Energy” and the children did an electricity audit of their school building, monitored the consumption of the school, and made a final presentation to the entire school during assembly on steps to reduce the usage.
