Kalpavriksh has been co-coordinating and actively participating in a larger people’s initiative, which came together in 2004 as the Campaign for Conservation and Community Control over Biodiversity. What triggered the formation of this collective was the need for a broader response and constructive engagement with the Environment Ministry’s Biological Diversity Rules2004. These executive rules were issued to implement the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 and they determine the manner in which the international law – Convention on Biological Diversity is taken forward in the country.

The Campaign has been carrying out active research and information dissemination on the implementation of the law. It has also  joined with other national campaign and advocacy groups to submit well researched responses to legal and policy developments in the related fields of agro biodiversity, biosafety, intellectual property, people’s knowledge, conservation as well as institutional reforms required for strengthening biodiversity regulation.
